Only you

"Write something only you could write." I stole that from Darren McKee.

It's been in the back of my mind for many months. I think it's something I tend to do naturally because I favor original content over just reposting or copying somebody else's idea or thought.

But I was curious what the numbers actually said. So with the help of AI, I had it analyze all of my prior posts (which I back up here on my personal website).

  1. My posts have been getting more personal by the year (87% for this year).
  2. Both "anyone could have written" and "only I could have written" posts had a 25% chance of reaching my top 50 by impressions.

What should you take from this?

Writing something only you could write isn't going to improve your reach (but it doesn't necessarily hurt it either). If you only post generic things that anyone could post, eventually the audience will find someone else who posts those same generic things. So my advice, and what I am trying to put into practice, is be the unique you. Bring your unique angle, your own secret sauce. Otherwise you might as well just set up a bot to repost memes and quotes.
