Most careers make a lot more sense looking backward than they did while you were living them.
I recently joined Rashad Woods on The T.R.O.N. Podcast to tell the longer version of how I went from investment banking, to teaching English in Japan, to teaching myself to code, and eventually to building Ambiki.
We talked about how Ambiki grew out of a call from a friend who had just purchased a pediatric therapy practice where the therapists were burned out and buried in administrative work.
We also talked about running a fully remote team from Japan, and an idea I return to often: you can’t manufacture luck, but you can increase your “luck surface area” by continuing to learn, build, and put your work into the world.
A lot of my career pivots felt uncertain at the time. Looking back, each one gave me something I needed for the next.
