If you want to write a book to make money, you should probably think twice.

But if you want to write a book because of everything else it might unlock? Worth it.

Here are some of the coolest things that have come out of it for me:

  • Reconnecting with an old friend. Dirk edited the book.
  • Meeting new, interesting people, like David.
  • Getting invited on podcasts, which stretched me and forced me to practice new skills.
  • Creating new content for LinkedIn, which has helped expand my reach and increase my luck surface area.
  • Learning a ton about self-publishing and marketing: audiobooks, KDP, SEO, editorial reviews, ARCs, bylines, and more.
  • Crossing a professional bucket list item off the list.
  • Creating something I can hand to my kids when they start their careers.
  • Clarifying my thinking on product and forcing me to be more disciplined.

On the left, the blue and purple hardcover stands upright, its cover showing a checklist where 'Define the problem' is highlighted above 'Wireframe mock-up,' 'Code feature,' 'Write press release,' and 'Make marketing video.' On the right, two award seals from BookViral Reviews and US Review of Books sit above six pull-quotes from reviewers, including 'Probably one of the most useful books a product builder could read right now.'
