Small wins

One of my favorite channels at Ambiki is our Accolades channel. It's where we celebrate work anniversaries, birthdays, big wins, small wins, and sometimes just someone being an awesome teammate.

We're a 100% remote company. And while there are a lot of things I love about being remote, one thing you lose is those spontaneous moments of celebration. There's no walking by someone's desk to congratulate them. No cake in the break room. No overhearing someone getting praised for a job well done.

You have to be intentional about creating those moments. And I think that's especially important when you're a startup. Because in a startup, there's always something that's broken. Something that's behind schedule. Something that needs to be fixed. Some fire that needs to be put out. You can have ten things go right in a day and one thing go wrong, and guess which one gets 90% of everyone's attention?

If you're not careful, the entire company can start to feel like one never-ending list of problems to solve. And that's exhausting.

So I think it's important to create spaces where the only purpose is to recognize the good things happening around us. To remind ourselves that we're making progress.

And oh yeah, no comments about the fact that we use Microsoft Teams. It is what it is.
