My son is building his own computer game without being able to type or read English.
His main language is Japanese. School and daily life are almost entirely in Japanese, while we speak English around the house.
His English listening and speaking are probably around the same level as other kids his age in the US (he's in 4th grade of elementary school).
But his reading and writing are definitely behind.
That creates a challenge: how do I let him build games on the computer without sitting beside him and doing everything for him?
Here's the system we came up with:
I also showed him a few basic terminal commands, like how to change directories and start the local server. That was enough.
He has now become almost completely self-sufficient and has been iterating on his samurai game without my help.
AI removed the reading and writing barrier that stood between his imagination and what he wanted to build.
He still makes all the decisions. He describes the features, tests the game, finds the problems, and decides what to change next.
It's been fun to watch his ideas and creative instincts come to life.
